I KNOW. I KNOW. Sam didn't even die FOR DEAN, and yet Dean refused to leave his side and was extra protective around his Sammy after he came back.
I mean, with the exception of The Mystery Spot, it's always been clear that Dean needs Sammy more than vice-versa (just because Dean has FAR MORE abandonment issues than his brother, omg) but... I was kinda disappointed. I mean, I trust in Kripke to explain this but... Sam doesn't even know or care that Dean goes missing in this episode (if he really does. Castiel says Sam isn't looking for him, after all, but then he wakes up in the same place, so...) and what if something bad had happened to him? Some demon wanting revenge, or Dean HAVING NIGHTMARES OF HELL and needing his brother to sex him up comfort him?
